Helping to ease cancer’s impact

Macmillan Cancer Support has rearranged a free course in Welshpool to help people to manage the psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis.

The programme will be held at The Armoury on Mondays for six weeks starting on June 10. The course has been rescheduled from its original start date in April.

Called Helping to Overcome Problems Effectively (HOPE), Macmillan’s new self-management programme will run from 10am-12.30pm.

Macmillan is offering HOPE to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis and it is the first time the charity has run the programme in Wales.

It is designed as a ‘psychological intervention’, with topics including managing stress, fatigue and body image and living positively with the fear of recurrence.

Susan Morris, General Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales, said: “We at Macmillan know that receiving a cancer diagnosis has a huge psychological impact.

“Macmillan is delighted to be offering HOPE for the first time in Wales as the programme can give people the tools they need to manage the psychological consequences of living with cancer.”

To register for the course, email Genette Webster at gwebster@macmillan.org.uk.

Macmillan can only fund programmes such as this thanks to the generosity of the public. To find out more about how you can help, call 0300 1000 200 or visit www.macmillan.org.uk/fundraising
