‘Don’t be mean’ Air Show tells residents

06/06/2013 @ 10:06

Organisers of the Bob Jones Memorial Air Show this weekend have urged residents to avoid a freebie and dig deep to secure the event’s future.

The show has released an impressive line-up of aircraft that will fill the skies over Welshpool from noon until 5pm on Sunday, and organisers have appealed to residents to come to the airfield to support the event, rather than watch from surrounding hillsides.

A statement from the organisers read: “Those residents who watch from the hillside and do not pay to come in enjoy the show for nothing. However, the Air Show Committee points out that without the gate income the show does not happen. With ticket prices at just £5 an adult and £3 a child people are urged to come to the site and enjoy the atmosphere there.”

It has now been confirmed that alongside the planes listed including a Vulcan, Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane and Typhoon, a Chinook will also feature.

The organisers have also apologised in advance for the added noise created by the show.

“Residents, farmers and owners of livestock and pets should note that aircraft can be noisy. We apologise for this but it is inevitable in an Air Show,” said the statement.

There is a free bus service running to the Air Show from the Tourist Information Centre starting at 10.30am. Provided by Tanat Valley the shuttle service will run every 45 minutes.
