The ‘WAW’ factor

A teacher who was worried about becoming bored when she retired from Welshpool High School has created a fantastic one-day challenge that will literally involve the whole of Wales!

Ceri Broughall has enlisted the help of over 250 people who will each walk a segment of the Wales coastal path on June 29 hoping to raise £2,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance. And they are still looking for the final spots of the path to be taken up by willing walkers!

Ceri explained to MyWelshpool how it all came about.

“The initial idea for this came about 12 months ago when I was retiring from teaching. I thought I would be bored and needed a bit of a challenge and something to get me out of the house!

“The Wales Coastal Path was being launched so I came up with this plan to walk it in a day. Fortunately, I have a lot of friends who are just as daft as me, and a retired husband who thought it would be a good idea to get me out and keep me away from the kitchen.

“Anyway, it seems to have worked! We have most of the 1,026 miles covered with about 250 people walking and I haven’t gone anywhere near the kitchen!”

“We have most areas covered, but have a gap on the South Wales Coast. Anyone who wants to help raise money for Wales Air Ambulance can get involved. Everyone who takes part pays a participation fee of £5.”

The route takes in the entire Welsh Coastal Path as well as Offa’s Dyke with participants invited to walk anything from one mile to 20 but ideally the organisers are looking for pairs to cover 10 miles between 8am-8pm. Sponsor forms are also available to raise extra cash.

Ceri and Alan Broughall can be contacted on waw1026@gmail.com if you would like to get involved.
