80's rocker to help Welshpool kill cancer

10/07/2013 @ 04:51

Organisers of a day-long event to raise funds for local cancer groups have secured a performance from an iconic 1980’s rocker.

Let’s Kill Cancer Welshpool are organising a 5k fun run/walk around the town on August 3, and it will start and finish at the Westwood Park Hotel where Kirk Brandon (pictured), lead singer of the Spear of Destiny, will give a headline performance as part of his British Tour. Money raised will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Spear of Destiny were a huge festival band back in the day and enjoyed success in both the singles and albums charts.

There is a £5 entry fee which also entities attendees to a bottle of water during the run, a burger/vegetarian burger, fries and soft drink after, and entry to the acoustic show in the evening.

As an added incentive, The London Hilton on Park Lane has also donated an afternoon tea for two for the person who raises the most amount of sponsorship money.

To receive a registration form, email letskillcancerwelshpool@gmail.com and one will be forwarded. Alternatively the forms can be collected from The Westwood, Town Council Offices or the Tourist Information Centre.

Joining Kirk on the bill is Folk Grinder, a London-based sea shanty band, with more acts to be added.

The event has a Facebook page at Facebook.com/letskillcancerwelshpool  for updates.
