Emergency services are attending an "incident" on the Cambrian Railway Line near Buttington.
It is understood a train has hit a vehicle at a farm level crossing near to Buttington Hall Farm, although the emergency services are yet to confirm this. It is understood a tractor might have been crossing the line when the incident happened.
A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue spokesperson said they were attending an incident in the area but could not confirm any more details.
Rail services between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth have been suspended, with coaches being brought in to transport passengers at Welshpool, Newtown, Caersws and Machynlleth stations.
