Charity shop’s £108,000 profit

Welshpool’s British Heart Foundation (BHF) Shop has announced an annual profit of £108,000 to be named as the national charity’s Shop of the Year.
The staggering figure has been released on the eve of the award being presented to staff at the shop by BHF Chief Executive Peter Hollins, who has praised residents from the Welshpool area.
The charity has 640 shops countrywide which bring in £22m annually to help fight heart disease but the average shop’s profit is £46,000, less than half the amount raised by the one on Broad Street.
“The Welshpool Shop has had an excellent year and thanks must go to its dedicated staff and volunteers,” said Mr. Hollins: “Every year they help raise significant funds that are invested into pioneering research, patient care, campaigning for change and vital information. Thanks must also go to the vital support shown from the Welshpool public who shop and donate on a regular basis.”
The Welshpool Shop has been open since 1999 and sells donated stock including clothes, books, CDs, jewellery and bric-a-brac. Mr. Hollins will be attending an event at the shop at 11.30am, Wednesday to congratulate staff and volunteers and present them with their trophy.
A number of charity shops have taken residence in Welshpool’s town centre over the past decade, dividing opinion amongst the area’s shoppers.
