Police have praised youngsters in the Welshpool area following a relatively trouble-free Halloween when only one incident was reported.
Community patrols were increased and the sale of eggs and flour to youngsters was banned over the period to clamp down on a notoriously difficult few nights for the local force.
But it appears to have paid off, drawing praise from the local officer in charge.
“Overall it was a good night,” said Inspector Diane Davies. “There were large amounts of people out and about and generally the atmosphere was fun and people behaved themselves. Our officers took the approach of engaging with young people to offer advice and it seems to have been taken on board. We would also like to thank the support of the shops who refused to sell eggs and flour to young people over the period.”
However, one mywelshpool reader emailed us anonymously to report that a “vulnerable” elderly lady had been “terrorised” by having an egg smashed over her head. The reader said those responsible were “stupid” and their behavior was “despicable and disgusting”. Police said no official complaint had been received.
Local Police will once again step up patrols over the Bonfire Night weekend under ‘Operation BANG’.
