Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on
Monday 15th November 2010.

OTMS (70)
An entry of 70 otm’s presented for sale, 63 cows averaged 93.8ppkg, 4 heifers 116ppkg and 3 bulls
84ppkg.E H Pennie & Son Gwern yr Chain presented a Limousin cow weighing 793kg to a top price of
£1015.04. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan presented a Limousin cow £992.60. Bulls topped at £912.77
for a Charolais from A M Rees & Co Gellilefrith.

FAT CATTLE (22)
An entry of 22 fat cattle sold to a market average of 149ppkg for the steers and 154ppkg for the heifers.
S M Rowlands Dolwen presented three fat heifers to 174ppkg 170ppkg and 169ppkg all bought by M J
Birtwislte Ltd. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach presented three heifers to 166pkg and 165ppkg and a steer to
158ppkg. EE & J Jones & Sons Cwmbychan presented a fat steer to 149ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (7901)
An entry of prime lambs, selling to a very good average of 167ppkg.
Super Lights (85) to 171ppkg from W T Jones Caeberllan. Others to 165ppkg from E G Edwards & Co
Bryncelyn.
Lights (769) to 188ppkg from RG K Hodnett Willey House. Others to 184ppkg from JW Froggart Little
Dunstall Farm. Average of 165ppkg.
Standards (2212) to 196ppkg from JW Froggart Little Dunstall Farm. Others to 186ppkg from RG & J
Pugh Fir House Farm. Average of 163ppkg.
Mediums (3338) to 189ppkg from D E Boulter The Russetts. Others to 180ppkg from Evans Brothers
Tynewydd. Average of 163ppkg.
Heavies (1294) to 165ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Others to 154ppkg from M C Jones & Co

CULL EWE (1853)
A reduced entry of 1853 Cull sheep presented for sale saw ewes averaging £43.34 and rams £61.25.D R
Owen & Sons Sandilands presented cull ewes to £96.50 per head. EA & SE Davies Ashcourt presented
ewes to £87 per head. Cull rams topped at £136 per head from Williams & Owen Cyffiau. D RE Jones
Offa Farm presented cull rams to £134 per head.

STORE EWES & STORE LAMBS
A good entry of 912 store lambs selling to an average of £50.35 with texel whether lambs topping he sale
at £66.50 from E Jones & Son Penbontpren Cwmbelan Llanidloes. Texel Theave lambs reached £62.20
from O LL Jerman Tuhwntirafon Carno. Mixed and Clean lambs were up to £63.20. Texel Tup lambs sold
to £65 from NG & GG Davies Trawsgelli.
Overall the trade was sharper with most of the strong lambs making between £55 and £60, with an
increased number of hill lambs to result in average of £50.35. Demand still remains high with a large
crowd of potential purchasers. Sale commences at 10.30am next week.
A small entry of store ewes. Yearling mule ewes made £90 from MJ & ZL Lloyd Haflen with welsh 3 & 4
year old ewes were up to £64 from W D Lewis Gilfach Dolfor. A special entry of 150 Mule in lamb ewes,
Scanned in lamb, due 11th January to a texel tup. Sale to Commence at 11am on the 22nd November 2010.
Ewe lambs sold to an average of £51.60 with Suffolk ewe lambs selling o £54 from H M Rees & Son
Brindrefach.

COWS & CALVES
An entry of 48 cows and calves met with quite a difficult trade, especially on the second quality cattle
with only the best having multiple customers after them. Three pure bred Limousin 1st calvers on with a
bull calf and two with heifers presented by BC & JW Evans Penrhos Trefeglwys sodl for £1600, £1540
and £1620. From Price and Price Cwmearl were two Belgian Bluex cows wih Limousin Bull calves
which made £1220 and £1180. Presented by T A J Bason Lower Broughton Farm were tow 2005 born

cows PD back in calf, with Limousin calves at foot sold to for £1300 and £1210. A Limousin 1st Calver
with a Limousin bull calf from R D Owen Greenfields made £1360. W E G Evans Llwynycrwth sold
four Belgian Bluex 1st Calvers with Limousinx steer at foot from £1000 to £1120 and averaged £1060. A
breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows;
£1500 + 3 lots, £1300 - £1500 2 lots, £1200 - £1300 2 lots, £1100 - £1200 4 lots, £1000 - £1100 3 lots,
£900 - £1000 13 lots, £800 - £900 4 lots, less than £800 9 lots.
