Midnight walkers raise over £3K

More than 300 people braved the rain and plummeting temperatures to raise £3,108 for Severn Hospice following Saturday night’s Midnight Walk, organised by Welshpool Fire-fighters.
Walkers of all ages and abilities joined the town’s dignitaries with Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies and Town Mayor Estelle Bleivas (left) among the crowds that gathered for the start from Welshpool Fire Station.
The walk took in some of Welshpool’s most prominent locations and finished back at the station in the early hours.
“A massive thank-you goes out from all the lads at the station to the members of the public who turned out in the cold and rainy weather for the walk, thankyou to everybody who gave a donation to a very worthwhile cause,” said Crew Manager Bryn Evans. “It was a fantastic evening despite the small downpour of rain en route to Powys Castle which ensured everybody enjoyed the hot soup, hotdogs, tea, coffee and cakes back at the station even more!”
The winner of the Christmas Hamper, which raised £216 alone, was William Williamson who kindly donated it back to the station so it can be re-raffled at the winter fair.
