‘Magic’ emergency meet called, will stay on air

An extraordinary general meeting has been called to decide the fate of Radio Maldwyn with the resolution tabled to wind up Montgomeryshire’s local radio station.
But despite the expected end on December 13, Station Director Austin Powell has resolutely declared that the ‘Magic 756’ will continue to transmit local news along with music right up until its final hour.
Saying he had no official comment on the station’s impending closure, Mr. Powell has issued notice of the EGM, which states:
The EGM is for the purposes of considering, and if deemed expedient, passing as a Special Resolution and as an Ordinary Resolution the following Resolutions:
Special Resolution
That is has been proved to the satisfaction of this meeting that the Company cannot, by reason of its liabilities, continue its business and that it is advisable to Wind Up the same
Ordinary Resolution
That Gerald Irwin of Irwin &Company;, Station House, Midland Drive, Sutton Coalfield be, and is appointed Liquidator for the purpose of such Winding Up
Mr Powell confirmed to mywelshpool that until then the show will go on and hopes the station will broadcast without DJ’s while he would personally update and read the local news and events.
Hundreds of local residents are share owners, after taking advantage of a chance to buy a slice of the station for just one pound during its early days.
One of those share holders is Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies who said: “I'm not at all clear about what’s going on, but I can see that it’s a deeply disappointing situation. Radio Maldwyn has a strong following in Montgomeryshire. I've supported this local radio station since it was set up, and at one stage (1995) almost became its Chairman.
“I am a great supporter of Radio Maldwyn, and I hope that whatever arrangement arises from these ashes, retains some local content, and continues to retain a local presence. We will have to wait and see what happens.”
