The overnight snow fall brought any slim chance of some matches escaping the weather snap to a shivering end.
All matches in both the Spar Mid Wales League and the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League have been called off, with only Guilsfield setting off this morning to play their match on the North Wales coast at Rhyl in the Huws Gray Alliance.
Spar League Secretary Phil Woosnam said: “The League Cup games will now be played sometime in the New Year and hopefully league matches as scheduled will take place next week (weather permitting).”
Up to two inches of snow fell overnight in the Welshpool area, stretching the emergency services who have been on high alert since the weather was forecasted earlier in the week.
Powys County Council gritters kept the main A roads open with police only warning motorists to try and avoid the area’s B roads as the weather took its toll.
More snow is expected.
