Special guest for Welshpool & Llanfair Railway

29/11/2010 @ 10:32
The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway has received a very special seasonal reservation.

Santa Claus has again booked his tickets for the two weekends before Christmas, when he will be bringing seasonal cheer to young travellers on the trains from Llanfair. The railway’s Santa Specials are very popular trains – the children enjoy the exciting journey to meet Santa, who arrives with his elves and helpers, while the adults enjoy a train ride through the glorious scenery, which at this time of year looks distinctly different to the summer months.

This year the trains are running over the two weekends before Christmas, 11-12 and 18-19 December. Trains leave Llanfair Caereinion station each day at 10.45am, 11.45am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm for a 45-minute return journey. During the trip the train will pause to pick up Santa, and as it continues on its merry way he will stroll the warm steam-heated carriages distributing presents to each child.

On the train’s return to Llanfair the grown-ups will be offered a complimentary glass of warming mulled wine and every child a fruit drink, with a complimentary mince pie too. The tearoom will be open selling hot drinks and light refreshments, while the railway shop will also be open for a chance to pick up some last-minute Christmas presents.

Tickets cost £9.50 per person if pre-booked either by calling 01938 810441 or directly through the railway’s website at www.wllr.org.uk. For those who book on the day the price is £10, but the railway advises pre-booking to avoid disappointment as the trains are already filling up.

Not only will the journey on the Llanfair line’s Santa Special provide children with a special Christmas memory, proceeds from the events will help the dedicated team on the Welshpool & Llanfair to keep the steam trains running in the Banwy Valley.
