Jobs go at big Welshpool firm

30/11/2010 @ 03:52

One of Welshpool’s biggest employers has moved quickly to reassure the town of its future after making 19 people redundant.

Technogroup (right) announced the cuts prior to the weekend, sparking fears that the company, which employs more than 200 workers at its Welshpool and Oswestry sites, was struggling in the harsh economic squeeze.

But Managing Director, Jim Jones, has reassured the town that despite the news, the immediate future was secure.

“It is regrettable to make anyone redundant,” said Mr. Jones. “But we have been forced to trim down the staff to secure the jobs for the rest of the workforce. We were very high on support staff which had become surplus to requirements. But the company is still in a very strong position and the order books are high in our core businesses of security and utilities.”

Technogroup provides a range of industrial, construction, security and agricultural products and has become an established firm in the town, even lending its name to the town’s football club which is called Technogroup Welshpool.
