Two week closure? Not likely says planners

Motorists fearing two more weeks of town centre traffic misery have been told by planners that it is more likely to be ‘just a few days’.
Signs went up before the weekend in Welshpool’s commercial hub warning residents to expect Church Street to be closed for a fortnight starting today (Monday).
This follows six weeks of disruptions that motorists have already endured which only came to an end a fortnight ago.
But this new interruption, described as “crucial work” by Town Clerk Robert Robinson, is expected to be wrapped up well before the published two-week timeline.
“I am certain it will be much shorter than the fortnight,” said Mr. Robinson. “It will only be a few days. There are a number of jobs that need doing under Church Street so they are going to do them in one hit this next week. It is not an ideal time of year to do it but it is crucial work and we hope that disruption for local residents will be kept to a minimum.”
Meanwhile, two sets of traffic lights continue to operate on Mill Lane as the Tesco development work gathers pace.
