Hall Street closes forever

One of Welshpool’s most renowned ‘short cuts’ has been closed forever.
Hall Street, next to the Town Hall, will no longer allow through traffic and has been closed off following the weekend Winter Festival.
“It was getting very dangerous because there are no pavements and it is a busy area with the market traders and businesses that are there,” said town clerk Robert Robinson.
Meanwhile, Welshpool enjoyed a taste of things to come when market stalls lined the street on Saturday for the festival. Street traders are set to return for a Monday market from the end of February, around the same time that Tesco will open.
Traders are currently being sounded out about a launch date and they will be charged a fee for the privilege of taking a street pitch.
The town’s one-way system is expected to be operational by the second week of January.
