Free gig pledge as singer reaches No 1

Local singer/songwriter Dai Robs has moved into top spot in a national text vote which will see the winner have a shot at x-factor-style stardom. And he has vowed to play a free gig should he win.

A local campaign has gathered momentum since the local star narrowly missed out on qualifying directly for the national finals of the UK Open Mic competition two weeks ago. Friends and fans immediately set about enlisting support for the artist who has become a big hit since launching his first solo album in October.

“I can’t thank everyone enough,” said Dai. “I have just received the news that I am currently sitting at number one in the latest listings which is mind-blowing. I hope the support continues up until lines close on December 15 and I promise I won’t let the area down at the O2 and will give it my all.

“Also, if I get through, I promise to put on a free gig with two other big local bands as a thank-you.”
