Rural Berriew next for recycling scheme

03/03/2015 @ 11:37

Residents in rural areas near to Berriew are next to join the new kerbside recycling scheme offered by the new kerbside recycling vehicles, Powys County Council confirmed.

The new scheme and vehicles will be in operation from the week beginning March 16.

Councillor John Powell, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “These new kerbside recycling vehicles will allow household recycling collections to be made in one vehicle, rather than two separate ones which have been in operation.

“Households in a number of these areas will be switched over from recycling bags to boxes as part of the new kerbside recycling scheme and will be able to recycle a wider range of materials including food.

“As well as new vehicles being introduced, a review of routes in Powys is also being undertaken and some residents may find that their recycling and rubbish collection day is changing. These changes are being made to enable a more efficient service to be provided and affected households will be notified in advance.

“We would like to encourage every resident to make every effort to recycle as much of their waste whenever possible and with the help of all our residents together we can achieve the statutory targets set out by Welsh Government and avoid possible fines for not doing so. It also helps to protect our environment and avoids unnecessary landfill charges.”
