Armoury set for major investment

14/12/2010 @ 09:58

The new management for the Armoury has promised a substantial investment to turn it into a state-of-the-art gymnasium.

Chris Stevens has taken over the town’s oldest recreation centre in a Joint Venture with the Town Council and has said that, as well as the injection of cash, there will be at least two new jobs created.

“I plan to extend the gym and fit it out with top of the range equipment,” he said. “We will also be having spinning classes and more functions on in the sports hall. Initially, I will be looking to put gym equipment in the building which will be at a value of around £50,000 and the same equipment you would see at the David Lloyd Gyms. There will also be a lot more money spent refurbishing the Armoury in the next few months.”

Mr. Stephens has owned a small gym in Welshpool for the last five years, and has extensive experience working in the industry selling gym equipment and removing equipment from gyms.

He added: “We are aiming to get the gym up and running in the next few weeks. There will still be work carried out within the building for a couple of months after this but it will not affect the customers.”
