Saturday funeral for popular Guilsfield man

14/12/2010 @ 10:05

The funeral for popular Guilsfield man Johnny Morris will take place on Saturday at 11.30am, the family has confirmed.

Johnny (right) passed away last week following a brave 11-month fight with cancer during which the family said “he never stopped smiling” and “kept his film star looks right up until the end”.

Born in Arddleen in 1942, Johnny moved to Guilsfield seven years later and became well known across Montgomeryshire as a talented footballer with Guilsfield, Welshpool and Llanfair. He also played darts, cricket and air gun for the village and later turned his hand to indoor bowls.

His professional career included working for Gorst Builders and two spells with Carpenter & Paterson’s in Welshpool, from where he retired in 2007.

Eldest daughter Sharon, who has a younger sister Donna, paid tribute to her dad.

“He fought his illness and always kept smiling,” she said. “Even though he was in severe pain, people commented on how well he looked and one even said he looked like a film star! He was a star and we miss him so much.”

The funeral will take place in Guilsfield with family flowers only.
