KFC’s “no” to Montgomeryshire

15/12/2010 @ 03:40

Fast food chicken specialist KFC has said it has no plans to open in Montgomeryshire, despite a £150 million investment which will create up to 300 new stores open over the next five years.
Mywelshpool contacted the company after being inundated by readers that said they would prefer a KFC in the town as opposed to a McDonalds which appears to be the preference of town planners. Our story last week said that developers had been asked to approach the burger chain as part of the town’s redevelopment programme.
But the reply was negative:
“I can confirm that KFC has no plans at the present to open in Welshpool. The same applies to Newtown,” said a company spokeswoman.
Rumours have been rife in Newtown that a KFC was being earmarked for the CK Supermarket premises which became available last month. That store sits opposite the successful McDonalds store which recently undertook a £300,000 refurbishment to step closer to being open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

That restaurant remains the only globally recognised fast food brand in the area and the signs are that it will remain the case for some time to come
