Bike smash sparks traffic nightmare

The Welshpool-Shrewsbury road has been closed this afternoon after a road traffic accident involving a car and a motorbike.

One casualty was air-lifted to hospital after the collision close to the Little Chef in Buttington at lunch time today, forcing police to re-direct traffic through the village of Llandrinio.

By 2pm, tailbacks had reached two miles each way leading into the Llandrinio bridge as busy holiday traffic was re-routed to avoid the area. Police on the scene confirmed that the road could be closed for several hours as they investigate the crash which happened about 12.15pm. Two fire engines attended the scene.
