El Scorchio!

As the picture taken this morning from Welshpool Golf Club by Jon Gamble shows: The heat wave is on the way!

Forecasters are predicting that the Welshpool area could creep up towards the mid 80’s this week as a wave of warm weather pushes the mercury higher than some parts of the Middle East.

The warm weather will reach its highs by Wednesday afternoon before easing off with the threat of thunderstorms.

The usual warnings to take care and keep hydrated have been issued, and more importantly to avoid the temptation of cooling off in reservoirs.

It follows a June when the temperatures were average or below average for the time of year.

Despite the spike, it is unlikely to threaten the highest ever recorded in Wales. That was in 1990 when Hawarden Bridge in Shotton reached 35.2C or 93F.
