Arriva Trains Wales has targeted more passengers from the Welshpool area after announcing a £7.5 million facelift to its fleet.
Trains on its Aberystwyth-Birmingham line will be returned to ‘as new’ as part of the mass re-fit to its Welsh fleet which totals 59 trains. The investment will take place over 18 months, with the latest stage of work, which includes new seating, luggage areas and toilets is due to start in December.
“We hope these refurbishments will get more people out of their cars and on to our trains,” said Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones.
“There is strong growth in the number of people travelling on train services in Wales and we are investing in these improvements to make people’s journeys more comfortable and more enjoyable.”
Welshpool’s railway station received global attention earlier this summer when Her Majesty the Queen arrived there for her visit to the town.
