Welshpool Mayor “appalled” over Air Ambulance base closure

The people responsible for making the decision to close Welshpool’s Air Ambulance base can expect a strongly-worded letter from the Town Council any day soon.

Earlier this week, Montgomeryshire was left stunned when five of the seven Welsh health boards backed recommendations to close Welshpool and Caernarfon bases in favour of a new one located in north east Wales.

The data surrounding backing such a move has been questioned, and questions remain as to what will be put in place for the Welshpool area as compensation, and at last night’s full council meeting, the Mayor made his opinions known.

“I am sure we all know and are appalled by the decision that has been made,” said Cllr Nick Howells.

“We don’t really have any authority to do anything about it, but I would like to propose that Welshpool Town Council writes a formal letter to the people responsible for this decision voicing our vehement opposition.

“We really need to lay it on and tell them what we think.”

Councillors unanimously backed his suggestion.
