A piece of wasteland off Foundry Lane in Welshpool will be developed into sheltered housing, after Powys planners gave the thumbs up.

The application from Wales and West Housing Association will see eight bungalows and staff quarters built on the land to home people with learning disabilities.

The application was supported by the town council as the land is already allocated within the Powys Unitary Development Plan for housing in the town. It includes the formation of vehicular access and roadway, parking and all associated works.

The scheme will comprise two homes for independent living and six for assisted living. Residents will receive care from staff within their own homes with staff accommodation to be placed on site.

A site notice was put up and in the time it was in place no objections were received to the proposed development.
