Montgomery lift Mont Cup

02/01/2011 @ 05:55

Depleted Montgomery caused an upset in the final of the Montgomeryshire Cup with a 1-0 win over Berriew.

Clive McNamee’s men beat the odds and absorbed periods of Berriew pressure to produce a disciplined display on their way to their a fourth Montgomeryshire Cup and their first since 1981.

The game was held over from last season and the final at Latham Park produced few goal scoring opportunities. And the crowd had to wait until the final five minutes when former Berriew striker Ross Harris volleyed home first time for a well taken winner.

Both sides now return to league action with Berriew’s sights firmly fixed on the Spar Division One title while this win provides Monty with the perfect boost as they close in on the Division Two crown.
