Three apply for Spar Division Two

 

Three clubs have applied to join the Spar Mid Wales Division Two next season, but none play in the Montgomeryshire League.

 

Several local clubs were believed to be weighing up an application to join the league, but only Aberdyfi and Machynlleth from the Aberystwyth & District League and Knighton from the Mid Wales League South have beaten the deadline of December 31.

League secretary Phil Woosnam said: “Applicants have been advised that their entry is firstly dependent upon League position and then by possible vacancies within the existing structure. In Knighton’s case, if they finish in either of the top two positions, then promotion is automatic as their facilities are up to Division Two status.

“In Aberdyfi and Machynlleth’s cases, the clubs will firstly look to finish in the top two with the lower placed club looking to gain entry via the vacancy system. Both clubs are believed to have adequate facilities.”

 

The Spar Division Two is enjoying its first season and has received a warm welcome from the former Amateur League clubs who have made the step up.
