Lady golfers beat the weather

On Sunday, it was the Ladies' Captain, Sue Shemilt's, day at Welshpool Golf Club and despite persistent rain, all the Welshpool ladies and their guests completed 18 holes. 

The major prize winners were in 1st place Sue Jones (17) with 37 points, who just beat Margaret Bowen (16) with 36 points, leaving 3rd place to Ann Downes-Evans (26) with 33 points.

On Saturday, the men competed in the third round of the Montgomeryshire League at Llanymynech losing 275-244.

Those men not playing in the league match on Saturday were able to compete in the fourth round of the President's Cup. Richard Jones (8) came first with 45 points earning a handicap reduction to six. Second was Ian Spencer (19) on count-back with 41 from Dwain Evans(9). 

Derrick Arthur (25) was the winner of the Senior Captain's Trophy on Tuesday with 36 points beating Peter Sharman (23) on count-back. Phil Constable (15) came 3rd with 34 points.

Thursday 's competition, a four ball better ball, was dominated by Keith Roberts (19) and Harold Norris (23) who scored 45 points. In second place was Maggie Cadwallader (30) and Richie Amyes (28) with 41 points beating Mike Kendall (4) and John Morley (22) into third place also on countback.

Despite heavy rain Welshpool seniors' captain Paul Butterworth (16) and Will Cooke (21) won the Mid Wales Golf Association four ball better ball match at Cardigan Golf Club with 44 points.
