Guilsfield promote from within

Guilsfield have promoted long-serving player Nathan Leonard to the manager’s post following the shock decision by Danny Barton to stand down.

Barton has been hamstrung by work commitments over the last of his two seasons at the helm, but will remain on board as a veteran striker still capable of bagging goals at Huws Gray Alliance level.

By promoting Leonard (pictured), who has assisted Barton for his two seasons, Guilsfield will be expecting continuity with coaching stalwart Bernie Jones also remaining as his assistant.

“The club wishes to thank Danny for all his hard work and commitment as Player-Manager for the last two years, and are pleased that he will still be involved with Guilsfield FC,” said a statement.

“Danny steered the club to the quarter-final of this season's Welsh Cup and maintained the club's position in the top half of the league. Guilsfield FC will always be grateful to Danny for his professionalism in developing the current squad.

“Nathan inherits a strong squad and is raring to go in preparation for the pre-season. All at Guilsfield wish Lenny the very best for the future.”

Guilsfield finished a respectable eighth this season in the league.
