‘You get nothing for being unlucky’

11/02/2011 @ 01:36

You can’t blame Chris Herbert (right) and Russell Cadwallader for feeling sorry for themselves this week.

The managers of Technogroup Welshpool and Guilsfield respectively are in charge of two of the toughest teams to beat in the Huws Gray Alliance and yet both are facing a tough survival fight after a week of last-minute heartbreak.

The Lilywhites cursed Lady Luck first, throwing away a 2-1 lead late on to go down 3-2 against league leaders Connah’s Quay on Saturday, and then Guilsfield saw a vital three points slip away in injury time at Caersws on Tuesday night in a 1-1 draw.

It was frustrating stuff for both managers who must regroup this weekend.

“We have had a few decent results, and should have won on Saturday, but we threw that away against the league leaders and you get nothing for being unlucky,” said Chris Herbert whose side are in Huws Gray Alliance action against Llandudno this weekend.

Guilsfield, meanwhile, are in Central Wales Cup fourth round action and entertain Spar Division One side Bow Street.

Cadwallader (left) will have to reshuffle his midfield with both Rich Astley and John Harris out and he hopes his side can put the midweek disappointment behind them.

“It was hugely disappointing not to win on Tuesday,” said Cadwallader. “Things go against you when you are the bottom and we need to put it behind us and get on with it.”

Another fourth round tie will see Dyffryn Banw bid to upset high flying Alliance side Penrhyncoch. Llansantffraid Village go to Tregaron Turfs.

Holders Waterloo Rovers still have their third round tie to complete at Meifod while Llanrhaeadr travel to Penparcau at the same stage.

In the Spar Division Two, Llanfyllin Town travel to out-of-sorts Abermule and Llanfair United entertain Llandrindod Wells.

Montgomeryshire Amateur League sides will be playing a mixture of league, Montgomeryshire Cup, Emrys Morgan Cup and Tanners Town Cup action with the pick of the games seeing Waterloo Rovers Reserves face neighbours Technogroup Welshpool Reserves in the Town Cup.
