Trewern miss out on Spar League

Ambitious Trewern United will have to be patient in their bid to bring Mid Wales football to the village.

After re-forming last season and finishing runners-up in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League Division Two to Bishop’s Castle, The Tigers applied to leap a league and join the Spar Mid Wales League’s Division Two which had a shortage of teams.

But it’s not to be after a meeting today of the FAW Council in Cardigan.

“In the case of vacancies, there is no longer the ability to move more than one step up the ladder and this is the reason for Trewern’s refusal to the Spar Two as it was a step up from Tier Six to Tier Four,” said a spokesperson.

However, Talgarth and Hay St Mary’s will move up to Spar Two with Borth stepping in to fill a void in Spar One.
