Williams wins - but only "Just"

Justin Williams won the Mainwaring Bowl at Welshpool Golf Club at the weekend – but only just with two golfers storming clear of the rest of the field.

Williams (5) came in with 72 points but a countback was needed to separate him from the club’s greenkeeper Jon Gamble (3). Keith Evans (20) was a long way back in third place with 83 points.

The AM/AM event was won by Steve Morris, Steve Lloyd, Mal Dutton and Tony Rogers with 122 points, just a point ahead of Geoff Haycock, Phil Haycock, Mark Haycock and Brad Carr. Peter Brookes, Dave Pretty, Chris Hughes and Ian McLoed were third with 119 points.

Club captain Alun Evans (14) won the AP Squibb Cup on the countback with three players returning 40 points. Frankie Jones (16) was second and Justin Williams (6) third.

The fifth round of the President’s Cup saw a win for David Evans (21) with 41 points, two points ahead of Alan Meredith (21 on 39 and John Eaton (21) on 36.
