Defeats for Welshpool and Guilsfield

Welshpool manager Chris Herbert may still be signing players but the Technogroup backed club are still 19 points adrift of relegation safety from the Huws Gray Alliance after yesterday's 6-1 deafeat to Rhyl.

Pool have been turning in impressive perfromances with good showings at Cefn Druids and wins at Llandudno and Porthmadog but top of the table Rhyl were simply too strong for them at Maesydre.

Money troubled Rhyl led 2-0 at the break and Pool were still in with a shout but the North Wales club took their chances well after the break with goals from Mike Pritchard (2), Andy Pearson (2), Scott Beckett and Jophn Toner. Sean Kilgannon replied for Pool.

And Guilsfield's midweek win at Penrhyncoch looked miles away as they crashed 3-0 at home to title chasing Cefn Druids. Druids netted twice before the break through Adam Heep and Luke Powell with Adam Swarbrick completing the scoring after the break.

Berriew opened up a six-point gap at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League with a 3-2 win in a full-blooded encounter against Llansantffraid. Christian Webster (2) and Ian Probert were on the mark for the table toppers but Llanrhaeadr still have four games in hand as both press for promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance.

And there was disappointment for Waterloo Rovers who had expected an easy passage at bottom of the table Presteigne. Instead Rovers were held to a 3-3 draw.

Dyffryn Banw's trip to Penparcau and Llanrhaeadr's match at Dolgellau were both victims of the heavy rainfall.

Montgomery are still top of the second division on goal average from nearest challengers Tregaron Turfs after winning 3-1 at Bont to keep Clive McNamee's men on target to become the first champions.

Llanfair enjoyed a welcome win with a 3-1 victory at home to Kerry, while Meifod's troubles continued with a 3-2 defeat at home to Llanfyllin.
