Pool on a roll

24/01/2018 @ 09:45

Snow and a confident Rhyl team couldn’t stop a resurgent Welshpool from clocking up their second win in a row on Saturday.

The lads followed up their hard earned win over Llangollen with a tremendous 17-5 victory over Rhyl who had travelled south looking for a bonus point victory.

What they did encounter, however, was a Welshpool team that is gathering momentum, none more so than Ryan Goodwin who gave a man-of-the-match performance after scoring the first try that cancelled out Rhyl’s opener.

When skipper Joe Stranks gave Pool the lead following a patient period of play, with Dan Earle kicking the extras, Pool could sense an upset and Tom Manuel touched down straight from the visitors’ kick-off to open up an unassailable 17-5 lead.

Welshpool have moved out of the bottom two and are not out of Division Two trouble yet, but the confidence is certainly sky high.

Meanwhile, Cobra dug deep to pull off a superb 18-6 win over Wrexham to move within two points of the division’s top three.
