Pool staging a great escape!

Welshpool may have felt down, but they were certainly not out, and have risen from the threat of relegation to stage a fight for their North Wales Hockey League Division One survival.

Rooted bottom of the table at Christmas, the ladies have put together some better performances in the New Year and a 1-0 win at Ruthin on Saturday saw them go above the North Wales outfit with one game to play.

The decisive goal came from Holly Fothergill to lift them off the bottom of the table.

There’s still all to play for in the final game this Saturday at 10.30am at local rivals Newtown. However, Ruthin face a tough match against unbeaten table toppers Ardudwy in their final match which they have to win and rely on Welshpool losing.
