Montgomery showed once again that they will more than hold their own should the go up this season after beating Spar Division One title favourites Llanrhaeadr to reach the fifth round of the Central Wales Cup.

The Division Two leaders matched their hosts on a heavy pitch which attributed to a dour affair before Montgomery scored the only goal two minutes from the end of extra time.

In demand goalkeeper Darren Powell saved a Shane Kirkham penalty for Llanrhaeadr after Tony Meredith was brought down by Ken McKay midway through the second half. But Montgomery held their nerve deep into the extra time when Meredith latched onto a through ball from Ross Harris to slot under Powell.

Next week Montgomery will go to Carno who knocked out holders Waterloo Rovers 2-1.
