“I’m fitter, stronger and more determined than ever”

It’s full steam ahead for Welshpool’s Adele Nicoll who once again proved to be the best of British at the weekend.

After completely remodeling her technique, Adele has been steadily getting back to her best over the past few months and on Monday she retained her British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) shotput title.

“It was fantastic to win my fifth British Universities Championship title and my seventh medal in total,” said Adele (pictured centre). “But it was also amazing that Cardiff Met finished third in the points table overall with nowhere near a full team.

“It’s been a great year captaining the Athletics team alongside a fantastic committee who are not only teammates but some of my closest friends.”

Adele made the decision last year to completely remodel her technique and her season best throw of 15.44m places her as the No. 1 in Britain, and already within a meter of her previous ‘gliding’ best.

“I’m fitter, stronger and more determined than ever so it’s just a matter of time,” she said. “It’s very frustrating at times but also so exciting. The new technique is coming along slowly and I’m now within a meter of my glide personal best after just 6 months.

“The weekend went well as a whole. As well as the shotput title, I got a season’s best in discus of 44.68m (she stopped training for the discus several years ago) and still managed fourth and very close to the bronze.”

The performances bode well for the outdoor season which is now in full swing with Adele hoping to set a new personal best throw by the end of the summer.
