Town back in the big time
Th club has been handed a wild card, along with Guilsfield, to play in the top flight’s Cup competition, representing a step up of two rungs of the league ladder for the Lilywhites.
“In its application the club stressed its long and proud history as one of the leading amateur clubs in Wales, as well as the problems of the last decade,” said a statement.
“However, this season the fruits of some hard labour have begun to reap reward. The club runs over 15 teams at various age ranges, has a Youth team, a Reserve team and a First team who finished runners up in the league as well as reaching its first cup final in 17 years.
“This has happened alongside ground improvements which culminated in the opening of the Tegwyn Evans MBE Stand (pictured) by the then Wales manager Chris Coleman in 2016.
“The club has seen the highs and lows of local football but by re-visiting the vision for the club it has hopefully been put on firmer ground than it has been for many years with a bright future ahead.
“For the club to even consider entering a tournament such as this five years ago would have been unthinkable but it does so now safe in the knowledge that a challenge such as this would be a true reward for the hard work put in to the club by so many people.”
The club was founded in 1878 and said that participating in this tournament will be a “fitting celebration of one of the oldest clubs in mid-Wales”.
Guilsfield will be looking to make an impact in the Cup after another decent season in the Huws Gray Alliance.
