Llanfair Caereinion’s ladies’ hockey team maintained their impressive start to the new North Wales Women’s League season with a hard-earned victory over Welshpool.
Switched to Newtown due to the storm, Welshpool opened the scoring early through Nia Mansell from a penalty corner but Llanfair levelled from their own penalty corner with Sioned Gittins getting the goal.
It could have gone either way but Delyth Thomas secured the points with a penalty flick.
It was disappointing for Welshpool who were hoping to build on the credible 0-0 draw against Pwllheli in their opening match.
This Saturday they face another local foe in Newtown.
