Welshpool Town gave their fans an early Christmas present with a superb display of attacking football to remain outside contenders for the MMP Mid Wales title.
League top scorer Will Thomas bagged four and Ricky Litchfield grabbed a hat-trick of his own as Town dispatched Kerry 7-1 to join Berriew in third, but having played three more games.
The big match of the day ended all square with leaders Caersws being held 2-2 at home by Berriew.
Newtown protected their unbeaten home record in the JD Welsh Premier this season, but the point leaves them looking over their shoulder as they bid to secure a phase one top six spot.
Carmarthen Town put up a strong show in Newtown, taking the lead through Liam Thomas from the spot before Nick Rushton levelled before the half time.
The result means Newtown are still undefeated at Latham Park in their Welsh Premier League campaign after 10 matches, and the point keeps them fifth ahead of their Boxing Day trip to Aberystwyth Town.
