The Christmas break didn’t stop some of our most talented cross country runners from maintaining their terrific form with Maldwyn Harriers runners dominating the North Wales Championships at Corwen on Saturday.
Maddie Griffiths (pictured from a race at the end of last year) and Callum Morgan proved their worth on the national level in 2018, and romped home with victories in their U13 races to show that 2019 is set to be their year as well. Morgan took the title ahead of teammate Aled Breeze in second.
The day started well for our local club with Mackenzie McCourt holding off a strong challenge to take second in the U11, with Mya Bradley (14th) and Chardonnay Morgan (19th) contributing towards a team bronze medal.
On his first appearance in a Maldwyn vest, Dewi Bradley led the U11 boys’ race from start to finish to take the title.
Ollie Jones then ran a superb race to take the U15 honours with Deiniol Owen in a credible ninth.
Another podium place was secured in the U17 boys with Carwyn Owen finishing third.
Among the local successes in the senior races, Leighton runner Haydn Jones, who competes in a Shrewsbury vest, finished second in his age category while Harrier, Clive Morgan, took third in his.
