Thank-you Welshpool!

It’s been a rollercoaster journey over the past two years for local athlete Adele Nicoll (right), but after a tremendous start to her season she has taken the time to thank her home town for the support she has received.

Adele followed up last week’s Welsh Indoors title by finishing third in the shot putt at the British Indoors this weekend, two performances that prove she is back to her best.

It promises to be her biggest year to date with a target to reach the World University Games in Italy, but it is the solid support from businesses and supporters from Welshpool that has helped to bring back the feel-good factor after long spells of frustrating injuries, remodelling her technique and changing coaches.

“Things are going great,” Adele told MyWelshpool. “Training is really positive right now and I can’t wait for things to come together in competition to show everyone what I can do.

“I can’t thank everyone from the town enough for their continuous support, it really means a lot. Thanks to my team behind the scenes: Welsh Athletics, Muscle Food UK, Great Fitness/ The Armoury, Rikki Lloyd Butchers, Dawson Shanahans, PT Protein, Inspired Through Sport and Sports Aid.”

Adele is based in Cardiff where she is taking on a Masters in Forensic Psychology and trains with a team she considers part of her family.

“I’m enjoying the sport so much which is important,” she added. “I have found a great coaching environment that suits me well; I have a lot of respect for my coach, Ryan Spencer Jones, and my training group has become a little family to me - amongst that family is Aled Davies, Paralympic champion and world record holder; how could I ask for a better athlete role model?

“He’s also like a really really annoying big brother!”

Next up is the 2019 British University Championships in Sheffield this weekend which she will be looking to win for the sixth time.
