Newtown overcame a resilient Welshpool side on Sunday to maintain their bid for runners-up spot in the North Wales Women’s Hockey League.

Despite long periods of pressure and plenty of possession, Newtown found Welshpool’s rear guard tough to crack, that was until Clare Bonsall converted from a penalty corner to secure a 1-0 win.

However, Newtown are still trailing runaway leaders Ardudwy who made it nine wins from nine with a crushing 11-1 over Llanfair on Saturday. Delyth Thomas grabbed a sole consolation for mid-table Llanfair.
