Welshpool High School pupil Josh Whitehouse has made it third time lucky by winning gold at the British Schools Judo Championships held in Sheffield.
The 17-year-old (middle), who trains at Go Judo in Llandrinio, improved on his previous bronze and silver medals at the prestigious event to become 2019 British Schools Champion for Years 12-13 in the +90kg category.
The event attracted more than 700 competitors from across the UK with Whitehouse taking three contests by ippon, a winning throw, against the very best for his age.
Whitehouse trains under the guidance of Pete and Adam Castell who run Go Judo at Llandrinio Village Hall on Tuesday and Friday nights. The club has been operating for five years and has produced medallists each year at the competition.
