Four local footballers are celebrating call-ups to their respective Wales U16 boys and girls’ teams for tournaments in Eastern Europe next week.

Welshpool High School goalkeeper Max Williams, (pictured) who is with the Class of 92’s Salford City, has retained his spot for the UEFA Development Tournament in Bulgaria which will feature Bulgaria, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg.

Newtown High School’s Carrie Jones and Libby Isaac are once again in the girls’ squad, and will be joined in Slovenia by Lauren Purchase, who lives in Malaysia with her parents, who are from Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion. They will play matches against Sweden, Slovenia and Northern Ireland.

Rob Edwards is in charge of the boys and will be joined by U19 manager Paul Bodin and U21 manager Rob Page as the coaching staff look at the next wave of youngsters which will progress through the Welsh pathway.

Meanwhile the women's U16 team will be under the management of James Thomas with the assistance of former Wales international Kath Morgan.
