‘Get it sorted’

Technogroup Welshpool manager Chris Herbert has warned the club to sort out its financial mess or face an exodus within days.

The club is on the edge of going under due to a lack of funds and mywelshpool understands that unless sponsorship due from Technogroup is realised this week, Tuesday’s match with Guilsfield could be their last.

The situation came to a head when a lottery winner’s cheque bounced this week and Herbert says the turmoil behind the scenes is having a massive impact on the pitch.

“There are a few issues at the moment and it’s anyone’s guess what is happening next season,” he conceded. “I just hope something is sorted out ASAP so that I can plan ahead and speak to players as soon as the season ends.

“I’ve got a shortlist of players I would like to bring in to the club, but with it being the way it is, it is very frustrating as things like this need to be sorted early as possible.”

Despite the uncertainty, Herbert says he remains committed to the cause and has denied talk that rival clubs are sizing him up for next season.

“Yes, I’ve heard the rumours about a few clubs being interested in me but that’s all it is, just rumours. I am committed to Welshpool but if there is no money for a squad budget next season then obviously it is going to be very difficult to build on what we have, and to get the management team sorted out.

“There are five or six players that I have spoken to who I would like to keep and they have committed themselves to the club already as long as we can still pay them of course.”

Town face a Mid Wales Huws Gray Alliance double header this week at Penrhyncoch Saturday and then Guilsfield on Tuesday.

“We need to win games,” he said: “I’ve never lost so many games in all of my career, and to be honest nor have the rest of the lads I’ve bought in. The moral has been very low but I’m hoping that I have a bit about myself and get the lads up for these games and come back to Welshpool with points.”

Three miles up the road and Guilsfield face a crisis on two fronts. Manager Russell Cadwallader only has 10 first team players available and is digging deep to promote reserves for their crucial relegation six-pointer with Rhydymwyn.

On another front, should Welshpool not see out the season, the results could become null and void which would wipe out the three points Guilsfield chalked up against them earlier in the campaign.

“Our home form has been very poor this season and all of our games are at home now so it is time to change and pick up wins,” he said. “Saturday will be tough. But I have confidence in the lads coming up from the reserves to give it their best shot.”
