Finals defeat for Pool, Cobra

13/05/2019 @ 02:15

It wasn’t quite the finals day we were hoping for, but nevertheless Welshpool and Cobra battled hard under the sun despite finishing empty handed.

Welshpool staged a strong second half fightback in the North Wales Intermediate Plate final but eventually fell short 22-13 against Rhyl at Ruthin.

The North Walians appeared to be cruising at 17-3, but two quick fire Welshpool tries brought them right back in it before a further Rhyl score eased their nerves.

A weakened Cobra side went into an 8-0 lead against Dolgellau, who they pipped to the Division Two title, but eventually lost 36-11 in the final of the North Wales Intermediate Cup at Ruthin.

A Rhodri Jones penalty and a try from winger Richard Noakes put Cobra in early control, and then another Jones penalty had made it 11-3 at half time. But with Cobra reduced to 14 men for a yellow card, Dolgellau enjoyed a second half blitz that carried them home.
