Welshpool have ended the season with some silverware by beating Builth Wells 2nds in a superb Cambrian Training Mid Wales Shield final held at Llanidloes.
The match was Jake Best’s swansong as skipper, and he signed off in style with a victory that underlined the progress made this season.
Sam Ward and Ryan Goodwin tries put Welshpool in control at 10-0 but Builth fought back to level, before Jason Isaac and Tom Davies restored the 10-point advantage.
But the match continued to hang in the balance with Builth Wells scoring again before a Joe Stranks try put Welshpool out of reach, despite another late Builth score reducing the eventual winning margin to 27-22. Tom Williams added a conversion.
Best will be replaced as skipper next season by a co-captaincy arrangement between Goodwin, Davies and Dylan Walton.
Meanwhile, Cobra added the Cambrian Training Mid Wales Cup to their Division Two title by beating Llanidloes19-10 in a hard fought final.
