Football faces new crisis

29/07/2019 @ 09:30

Local football could face its biggest crisis to date after it was revealed that just 32 officials had made themselves available to referee matches this season.

With the season set to start, matches could be called off unless more people step forward to take up the whistle with an SOS sent out to clubs this week for help.

In the message to club secretaries, a senior football official has pleaded with clubs to do what they can to recruit.

“This coming season could show a worrying decline of officials with only 32 registering to date to cover all football in Central Wales,” the letter states.

“To alleviate this problem, it is imperative that recruitment must take place immediately otherwise many fixtures in Central Wales will not be fulfilled.”

The plea then ends with a direct appeal to the clubs to “find a candidate otherwise there will be a lot of unhappy clubs come September when there are no referees available”.
