Welshpool have thrown themselves a Shropshire Division Two lifeline with a brilliant victory over local rivals Montgomery.

After deciding to bat, skipper Russell Cadwallader (53), James Breese (39), Dan Chodecki (32) and an unbeaten 33 from Patrick Davies propelled Welshpool through to 196-5 from their 35 overs.

The game hung in the balance throughout Monty’s reply, but thanks to 3-31 from Tom Bowen and other useful spells of bowling, Welshpool eventually bowled the visitors out in the last over for a 13-run win.

Guilsfield bounced back into second spot in Division Six with a four-wicket win over Acton Reynald II.

Electing to field, Guilsfield’s bowlers did well to restrict their visitors to 135-4 from 35 overs, before new signing Andy Clements (52) and fellow opener Gary Griffiths (44) paved the way for victory in the 26th over.

Llanidloes stepped up their Division Seven title campaign with a six-wicket win at Ludlow III who had posted 152-9 to chase. Andrew Jones (50) led the reply with victory coming in the 29th over.
